Comparing and Contrasting

Our modern lifestyle is very stressful as we live in a hectic pace of a modern city. That`s why holidays play an important role in people`s lives. We appreciate them for giving us a short break and choose  the best way to spend our free time.

These two pictures show us different types of holidays. The first picture depicts some people admiring an archaeological site, it might be a temple. In picture B  I can see a holidaymaker in a  luxurious hotel with a pool.

In both pictures the weather is quite welcoming as the sky is so clear and everything looks peaceful. I think the first picture as well as the second one has been taken in the daytime. Another similarity is that everyone is having a rest, relaxing in their favourite way.

However, while the first picture features an ancient town, the second one shows a modern resort. Comparing these two places, I would like to point out that the resort in picture B seems more expensive. People might go to a place like the one in picture B because of the feeling of luxury that staying in a resort provides. There is only one person relaxing near the swimming pool while there is a group of people listening to their guide to gain a better understanding of ancient cultures.

The first reason why I would choose sightseeing is a sense of curiosity about the past. I also have a strong interest in architecture. Besides this, I am very active and hate just relaxing near the pool.

10th form Choosing a Career

Choosing a career
Every person at the age of 14 to 16 has to make an extremely stressful decision, to choose his or her own career. It`s important to understand the difference between a career and a job. Basically a job is something you do, but don't expect to continue doing forever. A career is what you hope to do for a long time or even for your entire working life. Choosing a career is a difficult and challenging task: the decision once taken will influence your future life.
Choosing a career is a challenging task indeed. It is all about finding the perfect match between your personality, interests, and skills. Modern society, with its hundreds of professions and jobs, presents a vast range of future job opportunities. Industry and business, farming, science and education, medicine, service and arts are just a few professional fields a young person can specialize in. On the other hand, modern society with its crises, unemployment and inflation, makes a poor choice of profession a really bad mistake. You can choose a profession you really like, and face problems when looking for a job or the job can be underpaid. Besides, a young person's parents usually have their own ideas of what career path to choose. Some parents are more democratic and let the child determine his future by himself. Some are oppressive and overprotective and try to force the child to make this or that career choice irrespective of the fact if he likes it or not. In this case, they often try to compensate for their own dreams which have failed and the chances they have missed.

In spite of all the problems mentioned above, the choice has to be made. To make it easier for the young people, there is some professional advice. You should determine if you would like to continue in higher education, or to learn a trade and look for a job. It`s a good idea to try some of these career assessment tests to help with this step. You also have to consider the demand for a particular career in the labour market. Choosing a career where there are limited job opportunities can greatly increase the challenges you will face.

10 Form. Healthy Eating

 Healthy Eating
I`m absolutely sure that health is the main greatest wealth. Only a healthy person can live long and prosper.
The important part of a healthy lifestyle is a healthy diet. Dieting does not mean eating only lettuce. You need to get all types of substances including fat, protein and carbohydrates. The secret of a balanced diet is to reduce food which is high in cholesterol, while eating food rich in calcium and iron. Eating well means eating sensibly and trying to avoid too much junk food.
There are a lot of diets for those who are concerned about healthy life. For example, the Japanese diet is a healthy one, containing a lot of fresh fish and a variety of fresh, locally grown vegetables. People living there do not consume dairy products or sugary drinks but they drink a lot of green tea, which is said to have many health benefits and helps burn calories.
I suppose it`s a good idea to follow some pieces of advice to live longer and be active.  For example, if you want to have good eyesight you should eat food which is rich in vitamin A, such as dairy products. What is more, fruit and vegetables are good for the skin because they contain vitamin C. Besides this, meat, fish and eggs contain vitamin D, which helps build healthy bones. You should also consume dairy products because they contain calcium. In addition to this, you should eat meat, fish and eggs if you want healthy blood cells because these are rich in iron. We also need B vitamins, which are found in bread, cereals and potatoes. If you want a lot of energy you should eat carbohydrates. Moreover, eating food that is low in calories will help you stay slim.
To sum up, in order to live longer we should be careful about what we eat. It is also important to maintain healthy eating habits because, as the saying goes, ‘we are what we eat’.

10 Form. Jobs of 21st century

Jobs of 21st century
In our modern world there is a great variety of jobs to choose from. You can work for the company or be freelance.  Working schedule can also be different. You can have full-time and part-time jobs, regular and odd jobs. You can have the nine-to-five Monday-to-Friday job, work shifts or work flexitime, which means that you decide the hours you work. Working from home is becoming an increasingly popular option as commuting to work becomes more of a problem. Jobs can offer you promotion or financial reward as well as bonuses and good job opportunities.
I believe that every job requires certain qualities. For example, fire fighters have to be brave because their job can be very dangerous. They also need to remain calm when they are dealing with a serious fire. I suppose working in the fire service must be very stressful. You have to face difficult and dangerous situations and you often have to put your own life at risk in order to help somebody. However, it must also be very satisfying when you know you have saved somebody who might otherwise have died. I imagine that it is also rewarding to work in a team with others who share your desire to help people.
Another job where you work as a part of the team is a news editor. I`m sure that news editors need to be honest so that they can report the news accurately. They also need to be well-organised to be able to work in close cooperation to get the news bulletin on the air in the quickest time. They prepare the news reports that come in to them from journalists so that they are ready for the news presenters. This involves checking details and making sure that the final report is clear and easily understood. In addition to this, they often have to work irregular hours in order to meet deadlines. I believe this work is varied and interesting although it can sometimes be stressful.
Some jobs are not for everyone as they demand special talent. There is an unusual job that is not one where you start at the bottom and work your way up – you either have the ability or you don`t. The job is to advise perfume companies what ingredient a perfume needs to be the most popular scent of the season. You need to have an extraordinary sense of smell for that job. Perfume companies compete for services of such professionals because they want to have the best-selling perfume. I think people who do that job feel privileged as they have such an impressive skill.
To sum up, state-of-the- art technology has transformed the ways we work as working habits are being adjusted to meet the demands of the 21st-century lifestyles.

10th form Risky Jobs

10th form
Risky Jobs
Every single day newspapers and news channels report on the day's events. Work related deaths make headlines. Trapped miners, wounded soldiers, fallen window washers, shot policemen, burnt firemen, assaulted armored car drivers, lost fishermen, dismembered stuntmen, drowned deep sea divers, or missing oil workers have all been in the news just recently. It's always a tragedy, but for these people it's also their daily existence - their job.
It takes a brave, courageous, determined individual to choose a dangerous career. Some like the excitement of never knowing what will come next. Others like going places that no man has gone before. It may be because people don't want to sit in an office, eat donuts, and get old.
Dangerous jobs are a great example of risk versus reward - the riskier the job, the greater the reward. The reward can be passion or pay. People may take on risk because they love what they do - stuntmen, pit crew, or policemen. Others may assume more risk because of the ridiculously high pay. When the pros and cons are weighed, dangerous jobs often win.
We all need a bit of risk and a sense of danger in our lives. It makes us feel alive and allows us to appreciate things more. The passion for life, the adrenaline rush, and the acceptance of risk make people choose dangerous jobs.
Why do people choose risky jobs?
What are the pros and cons of being a combat soldier?
What risky job would you definitely not choose? Why?
Are there any risks involved in the job you would like to do?
